The Carter Center Farmer’s Market

The Freedom Farmer’s Market takes its name from the Freedom Trail nearby, but you can also support local farmers and simultaneously provide yourself freedom form the grocery store! Freedom Farmer’s Market at the Carter Center was created by a small group of Georgia farmers with one vision: “Bring local, sustainably grown food to intown Atlanta neighborhoods.”

Buying local produce is not only healthier, but you also build community by connecting with real farmers. Start your weekend off right with a visit Saturday morning to Freedom Farmer’s Market at the Carter Center.

The Farmer’s Market was started in 2014 in the tree-lined parking lot at The Carter Center. The Market is year-round on Saturdays from 9-12 January-February and 9-1 the rest of the year. You can find a wide range of organic locally grown or sourced products like fresh Georgia produce, dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt and butter, farm fresh eggs, baked goods, handmade preserves, pasta, treats and coffee. From March – December the market also features live music, a kids tent, and great local chefs with hot foods. There are also monthly events showcasing the fruit or vegetable of the season.

Fun Fact: President Jimmy Carter grew up on a Peanut Farm in Planes, Georgia and once said “I’m a peanut farmer at heart, still grow peanuts on my farm in Georgia.” No wonder the Freedom Farmer’s Market has found a wonderful home at The Carter Center! The Carter Center is a not-for-profit organization founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter in 1982. Set on John Lewis Freedom Parkway, The Carter Center is a centrally located Atlanta landmark that makes up part of the famous Atlanta Freedom Walk along with the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. The Carter Center partners with Emory University on many human rights projects as well as conflict resolution, election observation and public health initiatives.
