5 Free Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Atlanta

Sunday Morning Farmer’s Market in Grant Park

Each Sunday morning from 9am-1pm local Georgian farmers get together at Grant Park to offer the freshest produce of the season. The weekly event is popular with families and the park is perfectly set up for a fun day. Bring the kid’s bikes to explore Grant Park’s many paths, or walk to the nearby playground just behind the farmers market. Pick up some local produce or freshly baked bread for dinner and support local businesses with your food purchase. The Atlanta Zoo is also a short walk down the street. Grant Park also has a community pool that is free before 4pm.

Play all Day in Piedmont Park – 3 Free Activities

A journey to Piedmont Park makes for a classic Atlanta day and always pleases the kids with its variety of fun things to do. The park spans 185 acres of shaded meadows, walking and biking paths, fountains, active areas for sports and exercise, and two distinct playgrounds.

Legacy Fountain Splashpad – Located on the northern end of Piedmont Park, this fountain is easily accessible from the Botanical Gardens parking. A great choice for young children, the splashpad is a fun way for the kids to play and cool off. Located next to a field perfect for throwing a frisbee or stretching out a blanket for a baby, Legacy Fountain is a great free activity.

Feed the Ducks – Lake Clara Meer is located near the center of Piedmont Park. Home to many ducks, the small lake is perfect to stroll around or feed the ducks from the picturesque bridge near the aquatic center.

Play on the playground – Piedmont Park boasts two playgrounds. Completed in 1976, The Noguchi Playscape, located near the 12th Street Gate, was designed by world-renowned artist and sculptor Isamu Noguchi. This is a one of a kind playground intended to introduce children to sculpture in a playful medium. Mayor’s Grove Playground is a great choice for younger children and is a close walk to restrooms and picnic tables.

Glenwood Park – Let the kids play while you exercise:

Glenwood Park is the perfect spot for stress-free playtime. Located off Glenwood Avenue, this park features a playground, flat field, small pond and several seating areas, all surrounded by an oval sidewalk. It’s the perfect setup to enjoy a walk or jog around while keeping your eye on an older child. Cool off or enjoy a refreshment in the nearby Drip café!

Visit the High Museum of Art:

The High Museum of Art offers free admission on the second Sunday of each month as part of Family Fun at the Woodruff Arts Center, with special family-friendly programming from 1 to 4 pm. Take the kids on an educational trip to the museum and let them be inspired by some of the world’s greatest artists. Have your child do their own painting at home after and hang it in a special place next to a photo of your trip to the High!

Catch a Movie in the park at Atlantic Station:

Atlantic Station is a shopping, dining, and entertainment center located just west of the Midtown Arts district. The outdoor shopping area surrounds a central park that hosts events like yoga, maker’s markets and free screenings of movies geared towards children. The next two screenings are of Beauty and the Beast and Moana. Take the kids to view great movies under the stars and meet other great families. Bring a blanket and some snacks to create a fun free experience the kids will love!
